Yangpu District People’s Court and Fudan University Law School Jointly Hold a Symposium on Collaborative Research Projects

On July 24, 2024, the Yangpu District People’s Court and the Fudan University Law School jointly held a symposium to discuss their collaborative research projects. The event was attended by following figures from Fudan University Law School, including Vice President Wang Lin, Assistant to the President and Associate Professor Ban Tianke, Professor Ji Ligang, Associate Professors Ding Wenjie and Shi Hongpeng, as well as Lecturer Wang Nijie. Additionally, the event welcomed Chen Jiehua, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of Yangpu District People’s Court; Sun Yong, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of the same court; Ye Lan, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of the same court; Han Yi, Director of the Political Department, along with other comrades from relevant departments and authors of the collaborative projects.

During the symposium, Wang Lin presented the current developments of the Fudan University Law School and its ongoing collaboration with the court, noting that the topics of the collaborative research are of practical relevance, foresight, and academic significance. Wang Lin expressed the hope to further enrich and expand modes of collaboration, enhance mutual understanding and trust, amplify synergy through academic conferences, practice-oriented forums, and innovative courses, etc. This will usher in a new chapter of positive interaction between legal research, legal education, and judicial practice.

According to Sun Yong’s introduction, nine faculty members from the Fudan University Law School were invited to participate in the ten research projects successfully approved by the Yangpu District People’s Court. These members provided guidance and assistance for steps of project investigation, frameworks for writing, core content, and the commercialization of research outcomes.

The symposium featured discussions on the current state of the research projects, with the court and university representatives exchanging ideas and perspectives.

Han Yi stated that Yangpu District People’s Court places importance on collaboration with academic institutions of higher learning, affirming the court’s commitment to strengthening interactions with them. He underscored the court’s goal of using legal theory to guide practice and refining legal theory through judicial practice.

Ji Ligang remarked that collaborative projects hold theoretical value and practical relevance, which greatly benefits the practical teaching at the Law School. Ji Ligang expected that both sides would develop distinctive brands in research projects and practical teaching in the future.

Ye Lan highlighted that the research projects cover a diverse range of fields, representing not only an innovation of the court’s research efforts but also an important measure to address the practical research needs of grassroots courts.

Chen Jiehua noted that the symposium should serve as a new starting point for fostering the in-depth integration and positive interaction of legal research, legal education, and judicial practice and outlined three objectives: 1. Promote the fresh integration of courts and law schools to jointly enhance regional development; 2. Focus on the new convergence of judicial practice and legal research, and jointly deepen the cooperation with academic institutions of higher learning; 3. Expand the new cooperation between Hejian and Jiangwan to jointly build a distinctive brand.
