In order to further study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, and to strengthen the rule of law publicity and education for youngsters, on September 2, 2024, namely, the first day of the new semester, the Jing¡¯an District People¡¯s Court and Education Bureau jointly held the event titled ¡°Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law on the Campus: First Lesson of the New Term¡± and the meeting of promoting the Jing¡¯an District school work based on the law was held in Shanghai Shibei Senior High School (hereinafter referred to as ¡°Shibei High School¡±).

Sun Jing, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and President of Jing¡¯an District People¡¯s Court, gave the ¡°First Lesson of the New Term¡± to the students of Shibei High School, and Qiu Zhongning, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Director of Jing¡¯an District Education Bureau, attended the event.

¡°First Lesson of the New Term¡± Sowing the Seeds of Rule of Law

As a vice-principal for rule of law of Shibei High School, Sun Jing gave a lively and wonderful lesson on rule of law to the school teachers and students on the theme of ¡°Learn, Abide By and Use the Law to Be A Good Youth in the New Era.¡± More than 1,100 students of Shibei High School attended the lesson via live streaming.

From the perspectives of ¡°what is the law¡± ¡°what role does a judge play¡± and ¡°what legal issues will school students encounter¡±, Sun Jing taught each student to establish correct values and rule awareness, and develop the habit of consciously respecting, learning, abiding by and using the law.

  ¡°Boys and girls, do you know what courts and judges do?¡±

During the lesson, Sun Jing asked the students questions and guided them to think about the law and the profession of judges. The students thought carefully and took notes from time to time.

Sun Jing also took examples of ¡°A Case of Injury Caused by A Falling Trolley Case¡± ¡°A Case of High School Students Affray Out of Brotherhood¡¯ and other vivid ¡°small cases¡±, to explain to the students the great Principles of the Civil Code, Law on the Protection of Minors, Law on the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency on the protection of minors.

Nowadays, the Internet has become an important tool essential to the life and learning of youngsters. Sun Jing also introduced ¡°A Case of Being Swindled for Modifying Exam Grades¡± ¡°A Case of Being Swindled for Freely Getting Limited Edition Skins of A Game¡± and other typical cases of network fraud, reminding the students to enhance anti-fraud awareness, and learn to use legal weapons to protect their legitimate rights and interests.

¡°I hope that all of you can have faith in the rule of law, and I also welcome you to enroll in law schools and engage yourself in the legal profession in the future. I look forward to your generation¡¯s contribution to the maintenance of social fairness and justice, and to the cause of the rule of law in China.¡± Finally, Sun Jing ended up words with encouragement and hope for the students present.

The students said, ¡°Today¡¯s lesson was full of practical contents, including a lot of cases that are very closely related to our study and life. In the future, in my daily life, I will actively study the law, arm myself with Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, and establish correct values and legal awareness. I hope to be a judge too.¡±

Schools and Laws Working Together to Build a Campus of Rule of Law

In recent years, the Jing¡¯an District People¡¯s Court attaches great importance to the appointment and performance of vice-principals for rule of law. The leaders of the Court take a lead in selecting a number of judges with high political awareness, powerful professional skills, and being familiar with the physical and psychological characteristics of minors, to serve as vice principals for rule of law of the primary and secondary schools in the district, carry out their duties according to the law, and build the campus based on rule of law.

During the activity, the principals of each school issued letters of appointment to the representatives of the second tranche of vice-principals for rule of law. The 15 appointees included members of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of Jing¡¯an District People¡¯s Court Shen Li, Lu Gang, Dong Lijie, Fu Zhugang, member of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Political Department Zhu Yu, as well as judges of Minors and Family Cases Comprehensive Trial Division of Jing¡¯ an District People¡¯s Court and others.

Qiu Zhongning pointed out that the schools shall strengthen communication with vice-principals for rule of law, invite them to participate in the design of the rule of law curriculum, campus safety management and other work, pay attention to record and summarize the real work cases of the excellent vice-principals for rule of law. The Education Bureau will be a good bridge between schools and courts, jointly safeguarding the growth of youngsters with rule of law.

Fu Zhugang said that it is both a high honor to be appointed as a vice-principal for rule of law, but also a heavy responsibility. In the performance of duty, a vice principal shall play a professional guidance and leadership role, carry out the rule of law publicity and education activities in a variety of forms, and effectively assume the responsibility of assisting the schools to carry out the rule of law education for youngsters.

The next step, Jing¡¯an District People¡¯s Court will take initiative to further improve the work mechanism for vice-principals for rule of law, ensure that vice-principals for rule of law truly engage in the daily school management, strengthen collaboration with the Education Bureau and the district schools, effectively enhance the effectiveness of the rule of law education, jointly safeguarding the healthy growth of minors.
