On
the afternoon of July 2, Jia Yu, President of the Shanghai High People's Court,
met with a delegation led by Ignacio de Castro, Director of the Arbitration and
Mediation Center of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Also
present at the meeting were Cao Jie, Vice President of the Shanghai High People¡¯s
Court, Zhang Junqin, Senior Counsellor of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation
Center, Lyu Guoqiang, Head of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Shanghai
Service, and heads of relevant departments of the Shanghai High People¡¯s Court.
Jia
Yu extended a warm welcome to Ignacio de Castro and his delegation. He noted
that in recent years, under the guidance of the Supreme People¡¯s Court, the
courts in Shanghai had continuously deepened their cooperation with the WIPO
Arbitration and Mediation Center, contributing to the steady enhancement of
China¡¯s judicial credibility and international influence. He expressed the hope
that both sides would continuously, based on the principle of mutual learning
and mutual benefit, further strengthen exchanges and collaboration in the field
of intellectual property protection and develop more diversified dispute
resolution channels for both Chinese and foreign parties, so as to foster a
legal environment conducive to innovative development.
Ignacio de Castro expressed his gratitude to the courts in Shanghai for their longstanding support for the work of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center. He observed that these courts were the first in China to initiate cooperation with the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Shanghai Service and to establish rules governing the alignment between mediation and judicial proceedings. He further noted that the courts in Shanghai have ranked first among all courts in China in terms of the number of cases referred to the Center for mediation, the number of successfully mediated cases, and the number of representative cases. These achievements, he remarked, fully attest to the pivotal role of these courts in the cooperation between WIPO and the courts in China. He expressed his anticipation for further deepening collaboration with the courts in Shanghai to support the effective resolution of cross-border intellectual property disputes.
