On the afternoon of September 3, the 2026 Fall Semester "First Lesson of the New Term" Event by a Grand Justice was held at the High School Attached to Shanghai Normal University. Jia Yu, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and President of the Shanghai High People's Court (SHPC), delivered a model lecture in his capacity as Vice Principal for Rule of Law. Attendees included leaders from the Party Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Education and Health Affairs, the Shanghai High People's Court, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Shanghai Normal University, and Pudong New Area, as well as some deputies and committee members. Lin Zaiyong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Normal University, presided over the lecture, and Jiang Fan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Education and Health Affairs, delivered a speech.

Mr. Jia Yu used vivid cases from daily life and drew on fine traditional Chinese legal culture to deliver a lecture themed "Uphold Integrity and Understand Reason, Foster Both Virtue and Law, and Become a Promising Youth," elaborating on three aspects. The first is to distinguish right from wrong. We should not only "keep the heart in check" and hold the bottom line of the law, but also "keep the heart directed" so that virtuous deeds are protected. The second is to cultivate empathy. We should put ourselves in others' shoes to understand their circumstances and feelings, and turn empathy into a conscious commitment to the rule of law. And the third is learn to make choices. In the face of "loyalty and personal ties," we must hold fast to principles; in the face of temptation, we must calculate the long-term costs clearly; and within a group, we must maintain independent judgment.

After the lecture, Mr. Jia Yu also interacted and exchanged views with the students. More than 400 people, including all first-year teachers and students of the High School Attached to Shanghai Normal University and parent representatives, attended the lecture on site, while teachers and students from other grades and more than 20 affiliated schools under the Shanghai Normal University Basic Education Group, totaling more than 20,000 teachers and students, watched via video.

Before the lecture, awards were presented for the 11th National "Learn the Constitution, Speak about the Constitution" micro-lecture competition for rule of law teachers and vice principals for rule of law, and the first "Uphold Integrity Cup" moot court demonstration and the launch ceremony of the second "Lead the Way Cup" moot court challenge competition were held.
